Lake Como with kids – is this la dolce vita ?

30 degrees Celsius feel gentle by Como Lake with kids.

On our huge terrace, our almost 2 years old is splashing in his inflatable little pool we carried again from London. Mum, dad and nanny friend lying in sunbeds and various places resting their eyes on gorgeous views, lake, hills and mountains. We could all certainly get used with this life!

Como Lake dolce vita

Argegno is a little charming village and we are up the hills, 5 minutes down a pedestrian alley to a fresh fruit & vegetables shop, bakery and its piazza. Couple of restaurants, a fountain, one other restaurant by the river, one hotel with a restaurant by the lake, one pier and one hair salon – life is refreshingly simple. Have not read a single page about the village and found all within 15 minutes of walking round.

A take away risotto delivered in beautiful plates to be returned at our own convenience. A fresh fish from the lake from La P’osteria. A blow-dry costing €15 and not much fuss for a same day Saturday appointment. A front lake hotel refreshingly helpful with print outs despite not being their guests. Me bathing in front of the hotel whilst son and dad enjoying their cappuccino and juice. A faultless Airbnb flat.  A quiet and relaxed dinner by the lake, great food and service at Belvedere that must have impressed even our toddler who stayed one hour and a half indulging in octopus, almond tossed lamb chops and clams spaghetti. A Saturday afternoon filled with live jazz from the neighbouring lake house, as good as it gets in Blue Marlin Ibiza. A Sunday night filled with moon and stars which reflect mysteriously in the lake. A Monday morning feeling joyous and pacing nicely.

Argegno with kids feels back to basics and kindness. A great recharge for the urban souls.

But Como lake with kids holiday can have it all – head to our post on friends gorgeous wedding in here.

And we couldn’t help revisiting twice in 2019 on our way to and from Lugano, this time in 4, same old favourites though.  The lido in Menaggio may not be the best managed but it’s incredibly easy with the kids, softplay and playground by the pool, lake and restaurant and oozing still the lakes charm. A passegiatta with an icecream in Menaggio before or after is mandatory!

On the other side, the lido in Bellagio has great brunch and socialising options.

Cernobbio is also just 20 minutes drive away and so pretty, the kiddies will be pleased to observe boats, swans and playground again by the lake. We had a quick lunch by Harry’s, with 2 monkeys, zen becomes aspirational and rather ironic!

But Lake Como with kids is definitely on our street of la dolce vita! For more lakes but on the Swiss side, check our Lugano with kids article; for more  inspiration on Italian holidays, head to our dedicated articles on Ischia and Procida  or favourite coastal Italian gems over the years.
