Best babymoon destinations Caribbean : Barbados and the Grenadines

Pregnancy hormones have been kind to me and dealt with several tricky areas first time round. As a serious addict to bubbles (champagne, prosecco and good cava equally), it’s been a relief to see a happy / euphoric state occasionally coming round without any. But the same happy hormones, failed to address though my travelling urges and exploring appetite, which felt as big and adventurous as usual. Back to the Caribbean was on the cards for a while, so here are our tips for best babymoon destinations Caribbean : Barbados and the Grenadines.

Caribbean babymoon: Barbados

For 6 weeks in the first trimester of my first pregnancy, we wandered and hopped around the Caribbean. Barbados for few days, a Liat flight to St Vincent / Grenadines, a couple of nights in St Vincent, a ferry to Bequia / Grenadines, a week in Bequia, sailing to Tobago Cays, more sailing to Canouan / still Grenadines, few nights in Canouan, flight to Dominica, a week around in Dominica, flights back to Barbados, more days in Barbados and then back to UK.

Tiniest Raphael bump and I felt most of the time elated to be out and about in the Caribbean sun and wonderful seas. We travelled at leisure with our friends, exploring actively, going out and feasting as usual – me less with the rum & cocktails, them probably less on the food. Beach bars and sun downers always on our menu, splashing and going round, relaxed and happy.

The only part which proved less enjoyable has been sailing – with both Tobago Cays and Canouan not bringing the best in me/ motion sickness very likely related but still doable given the wide skies and fresh air. Yes, nothing comparable to London tube morning & evening commute, which still made me nauseous for hours even at 7.5 months.

In Barbados we stayed first at Hilton, beautiful white sand beach (Accra) but rather corporate surroundings.

We also rented a car for couple of days & travelled around the island quite a bit: Bathsheba with its wild Atlantic coast charming and temperamental, Crane beach – beautiful and rather deserted, Beach house sunset dinner for a change of scenery. Barbados is one of the best babymoon destinations Caribbean especially if you are after sightseeing at your leisure, driving and hopping around gorgeous beaches, restaurants and chill out bars, as well as mixing with locals.

A Liat flight away and worlds apart,  St Vincent.  We stayed at the Grenadines House for a couple of days before catching the ferry to Bequia.

Relaxing, very quiet and non-touristy. St Vincent botanical gardens were lush and wet. A very helpful guide which enlightened us in the local habits and dependence of locals to very strong rums (over 60% ABV anyone? ).

A ferry ride away from the storm and we found Bequia.

Tropical hideaway spoiled us here for 8 days with stunning views, friendly cats & dog, lovely hosts, beautiful swimming pool & accommodation.

We indulged ourselves in the Infinity studio, enjoying breakfast on our terrace and soaking the views. Special thanks to Julie, Martin, Missy, Trini & Tobago for the most wonderful stay by far in the Caribbean!

We travelled around the island with our friends, by water taxi, cars, back of the cars and foot.

Mount Pleasant, Hamilton Fort, Firefly Plantantion, Turtles Sanctuary, Friendship Bay. This must be my favourite island out of the many we have seen and certainly in my top 3 best babymoon destinations Caribbean.

Princess Margaret, Bequia my favourite beach and Jack’s my favourite beach bar.

We spent the New Years Eve at Frangipani on the typical Caribbean music and headed later on to some house clubs. And yes, my pregnancies also do not affect going out & clubbing appetite J

Sailing away towards Mustique proved a bit rough, with the sea between the Grenadines quite temperamental.

Tobago Cays was also a bit rainier than we hoped but still spoiled us with wonderful snorkelling and turtles. Friendship Rose a wonderful boat and quite a unique day out.

A fast ferry ride away, Canouan.

Tamarind Yacht hotel is an oasis for sailors and spoiled us with good Italian food and sunsets.

Time flies and the isles were such a blast, that we came back second time around as well – 5 months pregnant this time and with a lovely toddler. An easier trip this time around,  2 weeks spent in St Vincents at the lovely Buccament Bay – dedicated article in here;  another one to add to our best babymoon destinations Caribbean. And for Best time for babymoon with toddler, check our article in here.
