Days out in Hertfordshire : Hatfield house park farm

What a fantastic day trip for all of us, from toddler, to baby and parents: stunning landscapes, relaxed pace, very enthusiastic staff, gorgeous gardens and a gem of a historical house! One of the best days out in Hertfordshire : Hatfield House Park Farm – a 45 minutes drive from Kensington.

And even on a Bank holiday week-end, Hatfield Farm did not feel crowded but merely let us feel close to the nature. Wide spaces for goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens, lots of cute babies around to be fed and looked at. The sandpits are simple and charming, funky diggers exciting the little ones. Playgrounds back to basic, a lot of wood and good old fashion distractions.

The farm facilities are also coming at a great value for money: Adults £5, Children £2.50, under 3 years free; tractor rides included and play a further play area. We all enjoyed a miniature train ride, £2 per adult – very exciting for our toddler.

The farm staff enthusiastic and very hands on, great stories about pregnant sheep, newborns, bunnies, piglets and so on.

Lunch on a Bank holiday week-end though felt busy – must have something to do with the good cuisine in the charming Old Stable/ Coach House Restaurant. Lots of shops in the Stable Yard, all  very pretty: from local produce, to guitars, icecream, hunting etc.

We tossed a coin in the fountain, this is definitely on our summer list to go back.

I spent a serene afternoon just with the baby wondering around the House and chatting to the guides. The  rooms, decorations and furniture are exquisite and there’s so much history: no wonder Hatfield House has been hosting so many movies,  from Lara Croft to Tarzan, My week with Marilyn, Pride and Prejudice and so on.

Felt so spoilt with choices for gardens at Hatfield House Park Farm: Sundial, East, West, Old Palace, Woodland to name just a few; intricate designs, mini mazes, geraniums, iris, roses etc. All a visual delight at the beginning of May and certainly on our list of gorgeous days out in Hertfordshire.
