Christmas at Kew 2021 with kids

Kew Gardens lights mark joyously and typically the start of the winter celebrations in London, hectic and festive season approaching slowly but surely ! And Christmas at Kew returns in 2021 with over one million glittering lights, a jubilation of nature by night and wonder of biodiversity! Some brand new installations for 2021, as well as the return of familiar favourites, the 4 of us had a blast on Press evening.

We love and raved about Kew Gardens extensively in pretty much every season, but this Unesco world heritage site becomes magical in London’s festive season.

Over the past years, Kew Gardens Christmas trail has been pure magic and joy, lights and colours  gracefully projected and integrated into the gorgeous vast royal gardens. Our young kids loved the artworks, choral trees, swaying flowers flickering and changing colour, scented fire garden. It’s difficult for night pictures to do justice to the magic and beauty, but my recollections of holding the hand of a 3 years old into an enchanting wood at night are very dear and special.

Talking about Kew Gardens Lights past editions, the kids loved the Bloom, the Hive, the singing tunnel of lights. Back in 2016 the rides on the Victorian carousel, little train and cars, slides as well and North pole village with Santa and his elves have been also super huge hits and something I’m asked about regularly in the winter season.

And in 2021 the funfair was again great fun for parents and kids alike: Victorian carousel, Helter Skelter, Swing Boats, Car and Train Rides as well as meeting Father Christmas to talk through wishlists and delivery options!

Traditionally Kew Gardens Christmas trail ends by the iconic Palm House pond with laser beams, dancing fountains and flickering orbs by Christmas classics. Silent night brings tears to the eyes and transports to childhood magic, whilst the kids are overjoyed and very tired.

And 2021 finale is just glorious, the iconic Palm House pond comes to live at a level we have not seen before: dancing waterside reflections, snowflakes projections, water fun, brilliant songs and so much more!

And spectacular finale aside, Christmas at Kew 2021 spoils the eyes and senses with so much more: there are the 12 Days of Christmas tree installations, one sparkling Christmas Cathedral, LED light spheres illuminating night sky 200 metres overhead and thousands of trees drenched in colourful jewelry. One can keep warm with seasonal street food, mulled wine and Montezuma hot chocolate. Wednesday 17 November 2021 – Sunday 9 January 2022, 4pm – 10pm and advance booking only, this is a London must see festive evening!
