Chrexit guide: best Christmas holiday destinations for families & adults only

It’s been over 10 years since we don’t celebrate Christmas at home or in any traditional sort of way.ย  2005 we started our Christmas getaway holidays in Cuba and being spoilt with 7 years old rum, white beaches and amazing diving, we decided that’s the way to go. So here’s our Chrexit guide and extensive list for best Christmas holiday destinations for families and adults only.

In Havana we’ve been particularly spoilt at Christmas with a Buena Vista Social Club in Hotel National – one of the best Xmas presents to ourselves up to these days!

And technically since then we alternated though Xmas and NYE exotic places with a great track record.ย After Havana, there was Brazil, followed by a very hot Xmas on a safari in Kenya and a cold NYE ski filled in Kitzbuhel.

Thereafter Hawaii โ€“ Maui for Xmas, Oahu NYE.

Next year Miami, both Xmas and NYE – can’t think of a better place to change the decade.

Followed by Thailand โ€“ Koh Samui.

Afterwards Xmas in Guatemala and NYE in Mexico.

Christmas getaway holidays continued with the first babymoon in Bequia, West Indies both Christmas and NYE.

And once kids were around we kept on going and dragging them with us : Abu Dhabi,ย one of the best Christmas holiday destinations for families.

And St Vincent, Grenadines – second babymoon.

Chrexit by now is not only very fashionable but quite an established term, hence our Chrexit guide.ย 2016 we decided to try something different and London was lovely and relatively deserted given the amount of Chrexiters.ย  We caught up very shortly after on the winter sun in Mauritius!

Banyan Tree, Angsana Velavaru

Chrexit guide: Banyan Tree Angsana Velavaru Maldives

2017 we were back on the road & to our Christmas getaway holidays : Maldives with friends and Banyan Tree Angsana Velavaru.ย ย And Santa came to town via a Catamaran! As one may easily picture this has been the best Christmas holiday destinations for families acording to my kids!

Best Christmas holiday destinations for families: Maldives

For the Non-Chrexiters choosing to stay in London, there are tones of festive fun, our favourites classics are: Christmas at Kew, Father Christmas at the Hall, Iceskating Natural History Museum or Queens Skate Dine and Bowl. And if you’re really stuck and in need of more ideas, Kidsorted comes as usual at parents rescue!

Merry Chrexit to you all and Happy New You – last part improvised last year by ourย 3 years old !

While we don’t always travel on actual Christmas like you, we’ve been know to do so every few years, and this will be one of those years! I just love seeing the way that Christmas is celebrated in other countries and in warm climates. This seems like such a perfect post for #FarawayFiles Happy Holidays!

Thank you Hilary, indeed fascinating to see Christmas celebrated differently and reunite with lots of other international friends with their cultural luggage all over the world ! Italian friends for example completely hillarious with their cotechino and lentiche – pig’s legs have been literally flown to Mexico and Thailand! Brazilian friends with their yellow underwear for Nye – brings money, and so on! Thank you for the inspiration, I guess I need to either expand this article or wrap up another one with traditions and superstitions for the year end !

Loving that term Chrexit! I’d love to gift ourselves a holiday at this time of year but I think we might be disowned by the rest of the family. Enjoy this year’s escapades and thanks for joining #farawayFiles

Hehe Katy, managing family expectations always tricky but by now they have given up on us – as long as we are happy and skype them a bit, they declared themselves content ๐Ÿ˜‰ Pleasure to link in as usual!

That is an awesome term. Though I personally enjoy spending Christmas at home, I also love spending Christmas other places and discovering how other cultures celebrate the holiday. I could never quite give up all the Christmasy things but we have been known to have pretty small Christmases since both my husband and I hate all the commercialism and greedy vibes that are prevalent around this time of year. #MondayEscapes

Hehe Allison, great to hear you like the Chrexit terminology! As you say going away is a great way to focus on what’s important to you and your dear ones rather than be swallowed by the mad shopping lists and spree !

Spending christmas somewhere warm sounds awesome, though I feel like it wouldn’t feel like christmas if I’m not surrounded by snow and cold. Maybe I should just give it a try next year and see how it goes. You definitely gave me some great suggestions here! #MondayEscapes
