Hampton court ice skating – royal London with toddlers in winter

Hampton court ice skating has been one of our favourites for London winter fun with the kids – atmospheric, royal and so much fun! Wrap up warm this winter for festive memorable family events, London with toddlers in winter is a blast! And ice skating with toddlers and kids is feasible, bring the add ons and the penguins!

Hampton court palace ice rink – London

Last couple of years our boys were 5 and respectively 2.5 years old, so one has a couple of skating seasons under his belt and comfortable manoeuvring and whizzing around by himself with a penguin; the little one, just about his second time iceskating with add ons.

Iceskating at Royal Palaces: HCP - London with toddlers in winter

Why do we say our favourite? I’ve been iceskating since a toddler, so it brings sweet memories of happy crowds and winter.

But iceskating at the former residence of Henry the VIII, with the gorgeous illuminated Tudor facade, brings the winter fun to royal magic as one speeds in the open air icerink overlooking the changing lights of the palace. What would Henry the VIII make of the red lights and colourful shades projected in the evening of Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink? The 5 years old asked. He would probably have skated on the frozen Thames by the Palace with the unnerving risk of breaking through the ice. And maybe loved the festive colourful display and risk free Hampton Court ice skating currently?

Such speculations go best over a hot chocolate with marshmallows on top and mulled wine for parents – Hampton Court ice skating experience nails the regular winter treats at the Cafe! Henry VIII iceskating abilities?

History testifies about Hampton Court Palce being one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by King Henry VIII; about King Henry VIII six wives and his gout. But little about his iceskating skills!

With 500 years of history to discover at the palace, why not arrive in the morning and explore all that the Court has to offer, from the gorgeous state apartments to 65 acres of formal gardens and its world-famous maze? We raved about it extensively in here, don’t let the cold weather put you off or enjoy just Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink! The palace has an array of events, including a festive fayre!

PS: Many thanks to Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink for the invite! As usual, pics, little clips, impressions and cheeky kids entirely ours.

I love the way they’ve lit the palace, it really does look festive. I think Henry VIII would have loved a skate! #CulturedKids

I always love going to the Hampton Court ice-skating rink. And they do a mean grown-up hot chocolate!

This looks stunning all lit up and I can’t help but chuckle at the thought of Henry VIII going through the ice on the river after a mince pie too many! Glad no such mishaps occurred during your visit! Wild wishes for a happy Christmas #CulturedKids
