Travelling with kids (and babies)
With winter arrived in few parts of Europe, we’ve been dreaming about a white Christmas and what else than family ski holidays 2018! We have a long tradition of tropical getaways at festive season, but given last year extensive inquiries about snow from a certain 4 years old, this year we have been looking extensively at family ski holidays with childcare.
Why with childcare one may naively ask? Well, as otherwise it’s not quite a skiing holiday – we usually aim to be on the slopes 9:30ish, grab a gourmet lunch by 13:30 and wrap it up with some apres skiing 3-4:30. So unless the kids are sorted between 9-5pm, ski classes, lunch and snow fun included, we won’t be able to fit our ski routine in !
And if one looks at all options for family ski holidays with childcare, the conclusion is overwhelming: Esprit Ski Team are leading the space.
We spent a wonderful week with them last January in Tignes and Val d’Isere and it worked out to perfection. Our kiddies felt in love with Esprit staff and the other kids at the chalet, skiing, the mountains and snow fun – could not have had a better first snow holiday in 4!
We indulged extensively the Michelin star cuisine – in abundance in Val d’Isere – Tignes vast and stunning ski domain: La Fruitiere and Maison Bouvier Panoramic on slopes, la Table Val Claret in the evening and of course spent our afternoons at Folie Douce !
We’ve met the Esprit ski team back in October at a glam and fun night out as they have a new partner in crime : Smallfoot, who is promising even more fun for the kiddies: yetis coming to life at Esprit ski chalets and kidsclubs.
Smallfoot debuted on UK cinemas in October and we’ve been spoilt by our favourite operator family ski holidays with childcare with a private viewing before the official release at the Soho Hotel. My 5 years old loved it: great movie, comfortably installed into funky leather chairs, popcorn and drinks at hand. Without divulging too much, I also loved it. Few topical contemporary dilemmas including humankind and openness, questionable sensational media and importance of ratings, bliss and ignorance high on the mountains, the importance of questioning and empathy. The kids will love the music and animation, few fab names including Danny DeVito and Zendaya, warmly recommending for the winter season 2018/2019.
Of course the movie left us properly longing for snow, winter and ski – so even more excitement about a white Christmas and the last arrangements.
Esprit ski holidays still have few places in French chalets, Meribel included plus LaRosiere, beautifully upgraded with brand new cable cars.
But this year we are heading to Courchevel 1650 for Christmas, testing ESF with the kids as well as the wonderful Fahrenheit 7 new suites. We’ve heard great things from friends last year, so looking forward testing Courchevel ourselves and all those fun things to do in there – stay tuned!
