Silverstone lap of lights, lodge and ice rink

The heart of British motor racing, Silverstone lap of lights spoiled us with over 400 laser beams, 400,000 festive light pixels and a trip around the world – all with a self drive by the  iconic Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit. And it is very difficult to say which one got us more festive and more excited after: Silverstone lodge full of winter fun: children’s cinema, racing games, curling , ‘Santa’s letter’ corner, live concerts, great food and drinks or Silverstone iceskating: an illuminated rink that is built in and around the Formula 1 garages and pit lane.

We followed Santa’s journey around the world and started with Italy: Rome, Pisa, Venice, Florence in snow globes, Paris with its Tour Eiffel, we crossed the Atlantic to the States, then the Pacific into fascinating Asia and then into Africa to gorgeously illuminated pyramids.

The kids adored the ring of fire, trip through the candy lanes, gingebread houses and of course seeing Santa and waving from the car, just as we wrapped up the lap.

The impressive Wing building, which houses the pits and paddock for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, transformed into a gorgeous Alpine Lodge this Christmas.

Do factor in at least 3 hours to enjoy properly: we loved the gin selection and alcohol free beers, the seafood platters, vegetarian mezzes, wilst the kids adored the hot dogs with a Silverstone twist, sundae and churros.

The curling proved great fun, the axe throwing intriguing, the atmosphere super vibrant and festive, perfect for kids to run around and adults to enjoy drinks and company!

The fun continued with Silverstone iceskating, an illuminated ice rink snaking through the Formula 1 garages and pit lane, the first ever skating rink to appear at the world-famous motor racing circuit.

Silverstone Lap of Lights runs from November 25th to 3 January closing only on Christmas Day and we warmly recommend it, a must experience of the festive season and absolutely worth 1.5 hour drive from Kensington. One can also combine it with a cheeky visit to Bicester village for some Christmas shopping but for motor race fans, best you save yourselves for Silverstone boutiques!

For more winter family fun and London with toddlers in winter, check our article on Christmas in London with kids. For more festive ice skating, head to royal Greenwich Queens House or Hampton Court Palace  and for more festive sweet and savoury treats to our family friendly London and around glam selection in here.

PS: Many thanks to Silverstone Lap of Lights for the invite! As usual, pics, impressions and cheeky kids entirely ours.
