Authentic countryside, animal farming, cosy setting filled with artwork, vegetable gardens where one could help himself, beautiful vineyards, chic rooms and delicious breakfasts are just few of the highlights from our time spent with Llucmacanes Menorca at Llucmacanes Gran agroturismo – one of charming finca in Menorca for families we came across in our regular visits to this magic island.
Views from Llucmacanes Gran
Llucmacanes village is a little gem with white washed stone houses in the gorgeous countryside. The narrow cute roads and country paths are perfect for cycling or exploring. But whilst Llucmacanes Gran agroturismo Menorca has this great small village location, it is still just about 6/7 minutes ride from Mahon airport and 6/7 minutes’ drive to stunning Mahon. This is your perfect base for slow travel, Menorca walking holidays, great pied a terre Menorca with children or simply soaking in the island tranquil pace of life.

My spiritual friends believe there’s no coincidence in me breaking a toe whilst paddle boarding in Es Grau with my 4 years old on this occasion; but simply my body telling me to slow down. And at this charming finca in Menorca, one can let go and embrace the glorious lands shining in the sun, where sunflowers grow tall and happy near La Gaieta church, where the agroturismo set up gives you confidence in life, where just the baby goats are sweetly interrupting the silence and turtles teach you there’s no point in rushing anywhere.

We chilled by the pool and soaked in the vibes of this place; we sat at breakfast indulging in gorgeous Menorcan pastries, homegrown vegetables and Iberica hams; we wandered around the gardens and picked tomatoes.

The other guests were equally smitten- a Spanish family with one daughter, a Dutch couple with teenage girls and German family with 2 kids.

The rooms are chic and our terrace was very generous. We slept so well both nights, the second day we even had to wake up the 5 years old at 10am! Menorca with children after all is exhausting, with kids swimming 6 solid hours in the pool and gorgeous sea and then running around and indulging in great restaurants.
Es Grau Menorca
Llucmacanes agroturismo Menorca is very well placed for some of the nicest beaches Menorca for families and here is a quick recap of our top favourites:
1. Es Grau is 12minutes drive and perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding excursions into Maldives looking like crystal waters. For lunch in here we recommend restaurants Tamarindo. The kids can easily play around, feed the fish or simply splash in the shallow waters whilst grown ups can indulge in cava, ceviche, calamari, alioli and various seafood dishes. A detailed post will be coming soon as this is truly one of the best places in Menorca for families – for the day or even camping overnight in the nature reserve nearby.
2. Binidali beach (Cala de Binidali) has crystal clear waters and lots of fish to snorkel with. A 6 minutes easy descent from the road. There’s a cute chiringuito just above – Som Sis where one could grab an aperitivo, small bite and grab that perfect picture opportunity.

3. Perhaps overcrowded in the weekend but certainly a little gem early hours of the weekday, there’s Cala Binibiquer. Los Bucaneros next door is a cute chiringuito with wooden benches, a good place to grab a beer or a juice. It’s perfect also to wander around bushes by the sea – may be exciting for Menorca for families like ours. Paupa there’s another stop option to get a beer and should you be hungry and in need of gourmet food, head further to Taberna del Corso. Certainly I would put these 3 nicest beaches Menorca on any itinerary Menorca walking holidays 😉
Llucmacanes village – summer fiesta
Back to Llucmacanes Gran, Mahon is a quick drive away from for strolls at local markets and ancient cathedrals, cobbled streets with Mediterranean architecture or simply by the harbour looking at the boats.

One of our favourite restaurants in Mahon is at Casa Ladico . For harbour seafront location, Passio Mediterrania is our winner over the years, their selection of ceviche and inventive seafood is impressive. For sunsets, Venecia Lounge is great and just a 10 minutes drive from Mahon harbour. Casa Ladico has a special arrangement with Venecia Longe and would be happy to organise a water taxi for a truly chilled evening with pre-dinner cocktails or campagne.
Travelling to Menorca during the pandemic (July 2021). Being fully vaccinated and travelling from UK to Menorca was easy, just a couple of extra forms. For coming back to London we booked our private tests 3 days ahead of our travels and thereafter booked for London Day 2 private tests. The travelling guidance has been fluid though, always best to check the latest UK Foreign travel advice.
Our time in Menorca may have been short (once again!) but always a great dose of energy and love, the perfect Mediterranean escape and therapy for the tired urban souls. I never think of going abroad for just a short break but all those blue skies are convincing me, it looks like you had a fabulous ice. Mich x
Hey Mich, we certainly did not miss blue skies and summer this year in London but missing the Mediteranean warm crystal waters, gorgeous Spanish food, my friends and the tones of peace in Menorca. The fights could be quite affordable certain long week-ends especially if bught in advance, which makes it at the moment my favourite short break destination! x
