Kalo Livadi beach Mykonos with Archipelagos Suites : Mykonos has long outgrown its reputation as simply Greece’s glamorous party island. Beyond the DJs, designer boutiques and celebrity yachts lies an island of crystal-clear coves, sleepy fishing villages and wonderfully relaxed family beaches. During our latest stay in 2026, we found ourselves comparing two very different Mykonos holidays: crystal-clear waters, soft golden sand Kalo Livadi and the refined tranquillity of Archipelagos Hotel versus our traditional holiday for years in Ornos with its effortless convenience by Kostantis. Which side of Mykonos is best for you and/ or your family? Both Kalo Livadi and Ornos deliver unforgettable Greek island memories—but in different ways.
Perched above Kalo Livadi, Archipelagos All Suites offer what many families crave in the summer: peace, crystal sea, Cycladic charm. The whitewashed Mykonian architecture blends beautifully into the rocky coastline, while spacious terraces frame uninterrupted Aegean views. Mornings begin with sea breezes, generous breakfasts and an unhurried pace that immediately feels like a proper holiday. The nearby Solymar Beach Club sits on one of Mykonos’ longest sandy beaches. Although undeniably stylish, it feels more relaxed than some of the island’s famous party venues. Families can enjoy comfortable sunbeds, attentive service and surprisingly child-friendly swimming thanks to the shallow, turquoise water. Lunch at Solymar is an event in itself. Expect beautifully grilled seafood, fresh Greek salads, excellent sushi and leisurely meals that easily stretch into the afternoon while children alternate between swimming, building sandcastles and dancing with the party crowds at Solymar.
If Archipelagos feels like a secluded retreat, Ornos feels like a lively seaside village. Just a few minutes from Mykonos Town, Ornos has become one of the island’s favourite bases for families—and it’s easy to understand why. Everything is within walking distance: beach, bakeries, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and boat rentals. The sheltered bay also offers calmer waters than many other Mykonos beaches, making it particularly attractive for young children. Kostantis Villas perfectly match this relaxed lifestyle. Located only moments from the beach, the villas combine Cycladic charm with practical comforts including fully equipped kitchens, shared pools and family-friendly layouts. Guests also benefit from easy access to the long-established Kostantis Restaurant, a family-run institution serving traditional Greek cuisine for more than 50 years. Our mornings usually started with breakfast overlooking Ornos Beach before the children disappeared into the warm, calm sea. The real magic of Ornos, however, is its flexibility. One day you can rent a self-drive boat directly from Ornos beach and discover hidden coves. The next, hop aboard the traditional water taxi connecting several southern beaches. Mykonos suddenly feels wonderfully accessible without the rental cars, taxis or transfers. The lunch and dining options on Ornos are fantastic: from Pasaji, to Kuzina, to Buddha Bar and Santa Marina, Apaggio and Aperanto Galazio; as the afternoon starts, the music gets louder and Ornos becomes one of the island’s loveliest dining destinations, with everything from relaxed tavernas to elegant beachfront restaurants just a short stroll from your villa.
For less crowds and more zen, Kalo Livadi is located around 10 km from Mykonos Town (Chora), Kalo Livadi sits in a wide, sheltered bay between Elia Beach and Kalafatis. The drive takes approximately 20 minutes, making it an easy day trip or an excellent place to stay if you’re looking for a quieter holiday base.Unlike the bustling beaches on Mykonos’ western side, Kalo Livadi feels spacious and less crowded, especially during the mornings and busy summer season. The shoreline slopes gently into the Aegean Sea, creating shallow, clear water that’s ideal for children to splash safely while parents relax nearby. The soft sand is perfect for building sandcastles, and the wide beach provides plenty of room without feeling overcrowded. Plenty of Space Kalo Livadi is one of the largest sandy beaches on Mykonos. Even during the busy summer months, you’ll often find enough space to spread out. The snorkelling is great as well, with children reporting sighting an octopus, a stingray and lots of fish!
Choose Archipelagos Mykonos and Solymar Beach if your dream holiday revolves around spectacular views, luxurious relaxation and escaping the busiest parts of the island. It suits couples, older children and anyone wanting a slower rhythm, whilst still enjoying the most of this wonderful party island.
Choose Ornos and Kostantis Villas if you’re travelling with young children or simply love having everything at your doorstep. The convenience is difficult to beat, and returning to a villa just steps from the sea after dinner feels effortlessly Greek.
